Tom Tom start sat nav, used many of times and still in good working order, can be a little slow on start up and retrieving gps data. But other wise perfect, it is a in a used condition and there are a few slight surface marks on the screen which doesn’t effect its performance. I have reset the device back to factory settings and have checked it’s all in working order.

Hi, I am new to TomTom - ex Garmin. I have just bought a new Megane with the Bose Carminat system. I updated my SD card and down loaded the TT support software and various safety camera files.
When I went to the Live Services page there were 2 option listed. The first was for the US and Canada at a price, the 2nd was Europe at a price and the 3rd option was Europe prepaid with no price.
I assumed that this option was included in the initial cost of the system and so I selected it. I reinstalled the card in my car OK - Everything worked except that the Live Service icon is still greyed out. Am I doing something wrong or am I dreaming that there is any such thing as a prepaid service on TT? Hi Zoe, I have already spoken to the Renault dealer and they claim that it is a new car.
The registration documents confirm that it was first registered on - we took delivery on Saturday last. It had 7 kms on the clock!! There is no doubt that this is a new car. As I mentioned previously, the car came with an SD card that only had the map of France.
We asked the Renault dealer to put in a new sd card with the Europe map. It is this new SD card that I have been using. Would that make any difference? Could there be an error in your records as this really IS a new car first registered for my purchase.
The French registration system is VERY strict about the 'Date de 1ere immatriculation'. That date stays on the vehiclesdocumentation throughout it's life. At this point I am totally lost. You say that the system was registered from Slovenia - the Renault dealer tells me it is a new car.
The milage looks genuine - it is almost impossible to change the milage these days and the engine, tyres, driving pedal etc certainly bear out the milage on the clock!! Where do I go from here? Best regards, Peter.
Hi Zoe, Are you saying that if, for example, I were to buy a TomTom system in France I could not take it to say the UK and get Live Service? Are your systems country specific? That is hard to believe for a Europe wide navigation system that has the ability to be set = and used - throughout Europe. Reneult cars are manufactured many countries and the Caminat system is factory installed. The cars are then shipped all over the world.
What decides the nationality of the Sim card? If this system was 'registered' in Slovinia, can you please give me further details of the registration so that I can discus it with the dealer? At the moment he is saying that it is a new system and if Live Service canot be activated then the problem is with TomTom. Please note that I WAS ABLE TO DOWN LOAD THE SAFETY CAMARAS QUITE SUCCESFULLY ON THIS DEVICE - WHY NOT LIVE SERVICE? I need more information to argue with the Renault dealer. Best regards, Peter. Hi peebs24, Just to clarify the situation here; it seems like your car/device was intended for sale in Slovenia from the information we have on the case you provided over the phone and the forum posts.
Obviously you purchased it in France without being aware of this. I'm unsure of why a car sold in France would be brought in from Slovenia, but that is up to the retailer here. Our SIM cards are only activated in the following countries for the Carminat: UK, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium or Luxembourg. As it is not one of the above countries you need to contact your dealership.
There is really no further troubleshooting to try from our side, as much as I'd love to be able to get you up and running right away! I am sorry that I can't help further, please contact your Renault dealer for further help with this issue. Thanks, Zoe edit 21/09: corrected Slovakia to Slovenia. Hi Zoe, I just got back from the Renault dealer - 124kms each way. They proved to me that the car came directly from the Renault factory.
It came off the production line on 30 June 2011. I saw the paperwork!! While I was there they logged onto TT in France using my TT account. TT France offered me the otion of buying Live Service for a year which I did. No mention of Slovinia, nothing to say you cannot download Live Services on a box from Slovinia. Now, the Live Service tries to connect but fails so I am giving it the 36 hours that I read somewhere is the time for TT to activate the service.
Do you in the UK and TT in France use the same equipment database? If this does not work, not only do I own a TomTom device that does not work but I also own a one year paid subscription to Live Service that I cannot use. Your comment would be appreciated. Best regards, Peter. Hi Zoe, Having read your last reply again.
Are we talking Slovinia or Slovakia? Are you saying that there are two separate Caminats delivered to Renault - one for the countries that you mentioned UK, France, Germany, Spain etc and another different unit for all the other countries? If so then it is clearly a Renault problem. They put the wrong box in the car.

I wish that I had this info when i was at Renault earlier today. But, the data downloaded from the box to the SD card clearly showed that the box was configured for Live Service. Is this just a standard configuration and you just vary the sim card or what? And why would TT France allow me to purchase the Live Service if the sim card in the box, which is identified on the SD card which TT France were looking at, could NOT handle LIve Services?
I really need you to answer all these questions SPECIFICALLY so that I can get back to the Renault dealer. Best regards, Peter. Hi Zoe, I have not received answers to my last 2 messages which I need in my efforts to try to sort out this TomTom/Renault mess that las landed on my shoulders. I now have another question - for which I would appreciate a reply. Let us say that a car/system was destined for let us say Slovakia.
The TT box would, as you say, have a sim card that could not be activated for Live Service as the service is not available in such countries (why have a sim card??). My question.
In such a case would the screen show a Live Servic icon greyed out or, more logically, would it NOT show the icon at all? As I have another meeting with Renault management at 2pm today - another 124km each way - could I PLEASE have answers to ALL the questions that I have asked in my last THREE messages so that I can be well prepared to fight my case. I look forward to your very quick reply. Best regards, Peter. I will be leaving home - and my computer - at around 12h30 French time. Hi Peter, I've just talked with our technical team and they inform me that the Sim card in the car is from Slovenia. Why the sim card is Slovenian and how it ended up in your car, only Renault can answer that.
If you want LIVE services to work in your car in France, you will need a French sim card. Only Renault can help you with that. Most of the hardware across the Carminats is the same. The biggest differences between them are the maps they cover, and whether or not they have a sim card and if this is active or not. Your device may be configured for LIVE services, however this is not the same as the service (sim card) being activated. Inactive devices will have the LIVE services button greyed out. If the dealer/Renault has promised you LIVE servies on your device, they will have to deliver it.
Thank you, Ditte. Hi Ditte, Thank you for your reply - I got it just as I was leaving for my meeting with Renault.
Unfortunately, it is not quite as simple as you make out. There are 3 parties to this transaction. Renault, as the supplier of the vehicle - TomTom as the supplier of Live Services - and me, the client stuck in the middle. Despite what Zoe initially said, the car had been nowhere near Slovinia.
Renault proved to me that the car had been manufactured for the French market and had never been sold in Slovenia. They produced the paperwork to prove the point and as the car had only 2kms on the clock when we first saw it, a trip in to Western France from Slovinia - or Slovakia for that matter - seemed highly unlikely. Furthermore, when we bought the car it had an SD card for France - hardly of much use in either Slovinia or Slovakia. These few points convinced me that Zoe's first assumptions were completely wrong!
Now let's look at it from Renault's point of view. As you had tried to blame them so their first question was 'Are you sure you have a valid subscription to Live Service?' As I was supposed to have a 3 months/12 month free subscription I was not sure.
Your website was not a lot of help as it seemed to indicate that there was a pre-paid subscription available. To prove my point to Renault on my second visit (124 kms EACH way), I actually purchased a 12 months subscription while I was in the workshop.(your invoice no EU20 refers).
It still did not work but, as I had read on your site, it can take up to 36 hours to activate so, once again I had to return home and wait to see if my purchase had fixed the problem. Thirty six hours later it had not, so back to the dealer who finally agreed to change the box. So, what went wrong? Was it a faulty system?
Did Renault put the wrong system in a French car? Did TomTom mismark the system as having a suitable sim card. As the poor customer caught in the middle I have no idea. All that I do know is that I have driven over 700 kms to try to solve this problem. The system now works OK. The only thing that I now need to check is that I have the following:- The right to a free map up date.
That I have 3 or 12 months free subscription to Live Service - I have heard both numbers mentioned - and I also had the ADDITIONAL 12 months subscription that I was forced to pay for to prove my point. I will check this out tonight via TT Home and you can be sure that I will be back to you if that is not the case. Best regards, Peter.
Hi Ditte, Well I did say that I would come back to you. The dealer changed out the box using my original Europe SD card - works fine!! I got home and decided to check my account with the 'NEW' card - same card different serial no.
TT Home offered me the chance to associate the 'NEW' card with my existing account which I accepted only to be told that I could not proceed as 'It was only allowed once every 6 months'. I now have a system that my account does not recognise and an account that knows nothing about my new system!!! I realise that this is 'Off Subject' for this thread and have only put it here to complete the saga. I have emailed your Customer services to get further advice which I hope they will expedite as I URGENTLY need the system with the latest maps etc by first thing this Friday. Hopefully that will be the end of a long and difficult introduction to Carminat in a Renault megane. Best regards, Peter BOOTHBY-SMITH.
This was the message I got from TT support in September of this year regarding Live coverage:- 'Our SIM cards are only activated in the following countries for the Carminat: UK, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium or Luxembourg.' Looks like you are out of luck in Poland but IF, as you say, other TT devices DO receive Live services in Poland then there should be no problem with Carminat provided that Renault have put the correct box in the car AND TT have put the correct sim card in the box!!!
It took me 700 kms of driving back and forth to my dealer to get mine to work properly and I live in France - which is on the list of countries covered. TT claimed that my brand NEW Megane was sold in Slovenia, then Slovakia!!!
